When clients come to us for a logo we ask them to complete a logo design brief form as well as have a chat over the phone.  This allows us to talk you through our process but more importantly you can tell us exactly what you need.  The logo design brief form is there to then get you thinking even more about what you need and want.  It also gives us a written account of the logo type you desire.
